Tasmania's West

Tasmania's West

"...Tasmanias West is known for its vast wilderness and its many mining industries..."
The Western region of Tasmania is known for its Mines. The largest town in Tasmania's west is Queenstown. Tasmanias West Coast is the least populated, making it the ideal travel for those looking for peace and quiet.

Further South of Western Tasmania has some of the most beautiful wilderness in the world. Situated around the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. Bushwalkers are rewarded by spectacular nature sights, and even those not so fit can enjoy the sights along the Gordon River.

The Coast itself is somewhat daunting. Strahan is the only town directly on the seaboard. Like most other towns, Arthur River and Corinna are situated slightly inland for protection. There are virtually no permanent settlements throughout the south-west region.

Various activities are available in the area.

West Coast Municipality
Covering 9574.5sq kms, the West Coast Municipality is the gateway to Tasmania's wilderness. Coastal populations include Strahan, situated on Macquarie Harbour, and the picturesque shack sites of Granville Harbour and Trial Harbour. The inland population centres of Queenstown, Zeehan, Tullah and Rosebery are all within a short distance from magnificent lakes, rivers, rainforests, dunes and historic sites.

With a population of approximately 5500, the West Coast is celebrated for its tourism, mining and fishing whilst the clean air, mild climate and strong commitment to community make the West Coast a fantastic and unique place to be.
