Ulverstone - Tasmania
|
"...The Coastal Township of Ulverstone is well known for its many Parks & Beaches. Ulverstone is one of the Largest towns in Northern Tasmania..."
|
Ulverstone is amongst the largerest towns on the north-west coast of Tasmania. Situated along the banks of the Leven River, about 15 min drive west of Devonport. The economy is dependent on agriculture and tourism, with the extensive beaches for swimming and fishing.
Ulverstone is known for its many parks, each having something unique. ANZAC Park has a good children's playground and barbeque area, Fairway Park offers a bird sanctuary and water slide, Shropshire Park has a footpath with Royal Australian Navy history inscribed on it. Legion Park is well known for its scenic coastal views. Tobruk Park, Boer War Memorial, and Queens Gardens are also common places of interest to visitors and locals.
Preston and Castra Falls are some of the areas "natural wonders". Tours of the Gunns Plains caves are available. Further south is Leven Canyon, where a viewing platform provides spectacular views of the 400m (1200 ft) gorge rising from the Leven River. People with a high level of fitness will enjoy the five-hour return walk to Winterbrook Falls.
Another attraction in the Ulverstone area includes a miniature railway.
Ulverstone has 4-star and 3½-star accommodation facilities which are RACT rated.
