Taroona - Tasmania

"...Taroona is situated approximately 15 minutes south of Hobart in Tasmania's South..."
Taroona is an outer suburb of Hobart. The name "Taroona" is said to be from the Aboriginal name for Seashell. It is a residential area approximately 10 - 15 min drive from Hobart.

The "Shot Tower" was built from locally quarried sandstone. It was used to produce 'shot' last century. It is the largest freestone tower [Built without Mortar] anywhere in the world. A climb to the top of the 48m tower shows a good view of the area and an excellent photographic opportunity when the weather is kind.

Truganini Reserve, which was named after the Tasmanian Aboriginal of the same name, is located at the northern boundary of Taroona.
