Scottsdale is the largest town in north-east Tasmania. The largest Lavender farm in the northern Hemisphere is located near Scottsdale The lavender flowers around December and January. It is one of the area's major tourist attractions.
Forestry is another major industry in the area. There are several forestry reserves close to Scottsdale. The Sidling Range lookout is not far from the east of the town, and give wide-ranging views of the area. Cuckoo falls and the Tonganah hopfields are close to the town.
