Enjoy the clean white sand on the Bass Strait beaches at Badger Head, Greens Beach, East Beach and Lagoon Beach.

Discover the many quaint riverside villages that feature arts and crafts from the local area. Enjoy a picnic beneath the elegant Batman Bridge; the word's first cable stayed truss bridge built in the 1960's or simply just relax at one of the restaurants and indulge your senses in the local cuisine.

Launceston
Launceston was proclaimed a Municipality by an Act of Parliament on 30 October 1852, 47 years after it was founded. The boundaries extended less than 2 kilometres from the centre of the town. Seven Aldermen were elected to the Launceston Town Council on 1 January 1853, at the first Local Government elections held in Van Diemen's Land. Aldermen elected the first Mayor, Alderman William Stammers Button, later that day at the first meeting of the Town Council. Mayoral portraits, of Alderman Button and every Mayor since, are displayed in the formal foyer of the Launceston Town Hall.

The Launceston City Council area has grown to about 1600 square kilometres. The number of Aldermen has changed during intervening years, from seven to nine to twelve.

George Town
The George Town municipal area is located in northern Tasmania, bounded to the north by Bass Strait, Tamar River to the west and Little Pipers River to the east. To the south, Mt Direction is the main geographical feature.

The township of George Town marks the administrative centre and the oldest settlement in the region. The historical precinct of Low Head sits at teh mouth of the Tamar River and the coastal settlements of Bell Buoy Beach, Beechford, Lulworth, Tam O'Shanter and Weymouth all face onto the shores of Bass Strait. Inland are the old mining town of Lefroy, and the agricultural areas of Pipers River and the renowned Pipers Brook vineyards.

Flinders Island
The history of the Furneaux Islands provides a significant component of the tragic story of the Tasmanian Aboriginals, as well as an account of the early maritime explorers, sealers, shipwrecks and cultural events that are of local and national importance.
