New Norfolk - Tasmania
|
"...New Norfolk is a popular spot for visitors, it is approx. 30 minutes from Hobart..."
|
New Norfolk is in the Derwent Valley around 30 minutes drive from Hobart. It has a distinctly English character and some of the oldest homes in Australia.
Until recently, the area was dominated by the hop industry. New Norfolk still produces the majority of hops used by Australian breweries. However, the ANM paper Mills at Boyer contribute significantly to the local economy.
The Derwent River at New Norfolk is popular for Rafting, Kayaking, Fishing and Water Skiing. The Salmon Ponds which is a trout hatchery and trout fishing museum, is situated near the town.
The Old Colony Inn is home to Australia's largest antique doll house. St. Matthew's Anglican Church is the oldest Anglican church in Tasmania. It dates back as far as 1823. Close to New Norfolk there is also a tulip farm.
