Launceston - Tasmania
|
"...Launceston has a population of more than 95,000 people. As the largest City in the North of the state, it is the centre for many industries in the area...."
|
Launceston is situated on the Tamar River where the North and South Esk Rivers meet. Launceston is Tasmania's second largest City. Launceston is known for its many parks and gardens, which has many trees such as oaks and elms.
The Penny Royal World is situated in Launceston. The Penny Royal Watermill has a working cornmill, and is connected to the Penny Royal Gunpowder Mill by a restored tramline. There are small boats which are pulled along through the canon foundry, showing many old relics from days gone by. The old canons can be viewed and the canons are fired on each cruise of the ship which sails around the small lake.
Walking tours present an excellent opportunity to see the many parks & gardens and also Launceston's historic buildings. Macquarie House built around 1830 and the Old Umbrella Shop are just a couple of examples. Buildings surrounding Prince's Square are worth a stop.
