Glenorchy is situated on the west bank of the Derwent River north of Hobart. The City of Glenorchy is bordered by The Dereent River on one side and the Mount Wellington Range on the other. The areas history is rich in Agriculture & Horticultural industries. Today the area has a strong Industrial base.
Industries in the area include Pasminco, International Catamarans and Cadbury Schweppes. Glenorchy also has the Royal Hobart Showgrounds and the Tasmanian Transport Museum.
The Glenorchy Showgrounds holds meetings throughout the year. These include pacing, trotting and greyhound racing meetings.
The Moorilla Estate Winery, which started Tasmania’s most successful red grape, pinot noir, welcomes visitors to its cellar door and top flight restaurant at nearby Berriedale.
