The East Coast of Tasmania is known to have the finest weather in the state, and is often called The Suncoast of Tasmania. Bicheno and St. Helens are the two largest towns on the East Coast. Both are well known for their fishing industries.

There are white sandy beaches along the East Coast, and it is home to Tasmania's most popular National Park, Freycinet National Park. Coles Bay, which has been in the news as the first Tasmanian town to go "Plastic shopping bag free", is a popular camping area on the edge of the park. You can also go inside the park to picturesque Wineglass Bay.

The East coast fishing ports are known to be Tasmania's best, and make a great spot for fishing and diving.

The East Coast economy is based around tourism and fishing industries. Abalone, oysters, scallops, crayfish and deep-sea species are the most popular.

East Coast towns are easily reachable by road from many directions. Buses offer regular service to the entire coast, public transport is minimal.

Break O'Day Area
The Break O'Day area is located on Tasmanian's pristine East Coast; the region boasts many coastal towns including: St Helens, Scamander, Falmouth, Four Mile Creek, Beaumaris, Stieglitz, Seymour, Ansons Bay and Binalong Bay. This spectacular region also includes the stunning Bay of Fires, Tasmanian's Game Fishing Capital and the Mount William National Park.

Inland population centres include St Marys, Fingal, Mathinna, Mangana, Cornwall, Pyengana, Goshen and Weldborough, some magnificent attractions can be found in these towns, including: the St Columba Falls, the Blue Tier and portions of the Douglas Apsley National Park.

With an area of 3,809 square kilometres, Break O'Day is one of the largest local government areas in the state. The population stands at about 6,000 which more than doubles during the summer holiday season. The principal industries in the areas are tourism, mining, forestry, agriculture, fishing and aquaculture.

Break O'Day is one of the most diverse areas in Tasmania, so whether you're looking for celebrated natural wilderness, unmatched fishing, historic townships, clean air, friendly people or a mild climate Break O'Day is the place to be.
