Bicheno is one of Tasmania's most attractive towns and one of the more popular destinations for travellers and locals alike. It began life as a whaling and sealing town and then became a coal mining port. Crayfishing is the largest industry in Bicheno today.
The Sea Life Centre is a great attraction where you can view marine life up-close at one of several aquariums. LAnd animals can be found at the Bird Life & Animal Park, which has many different types of water birds plus Tasmanian native animals such as the Tasmanian devil.
Bicheno has many natural attractions, including a near perfect climate, beaches and excellent fishing of most types. The town offers many activities and adventures for tourists, including a scuba diving school, and a couple of vineyards. Freycinet Vineyard and Coombend Estate are at the southern end of town. "Waubedebar", a famous Tasmanian Aboriginal is in Bicheno.
